Board of Rectors of the European Reform University Alliance
Professor Roman Cieślak has been elected Chairman of the Board of Rectors in a recent meeting of ERUA's member universities. This election serves as a testament to our university's significant role in this international partnership.
The Board of Rectors holds the highest decision-making authority within the alliance. It is responsible for shaping its strategic direction and approving key decisions and policies that guide its operations.
The Chairman's responsibilities encompass:
- Collaborating with members of the Board of Rectors, the Secretary General, and coordinators from partner universities to develop the alliance's strategy.
- Ensuring the realization of ERUA's overarching strategic objectives and monitoring progress towards these goals.
- Offering recommendations on the strategy and policies pertinent to the alliance.
In addition to these duties, the Chairman assumes the role of ERUA's chief ambassador. This involves presenting the alliance's goals, accomplishments, and challenges, as well as championing its contributions to research and the advancement of higher education.
About the European Reform University Alliance
ERUA is an international alliance comprising eight universities established under the European Universities initiative, supported by the European Commission. ERUA includes the following members:
- University of Paris 8 (France, coordinator of the alliance),
- Uniwersytet SWPS (Poland),
- Mykolas Romeris University (Lithuania),
- University of Macerata (Italy),
- University of the Aegean (Greece),
- University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Spain),
- Viadrina European University (Germany),
- New Bulgarian University (Bulgaria).
SWPS University initially joined ERUA as an associate partner in October 2022 and officially became a full member this July. Inclusion in the European Universities alliance was a top priority in our international strategy. Membership in ERUA gives us the opportunity to forge meaningful collaborations with European universities for both teaching and research endeavors. It also strengthens our global standing and commitment to educational excellence.

Driving educational innovation
In November, the alliance has embarked on the ERUA2 strategic project with the following objectives:
- Fostering collaboration within the community to create an interconnected and sustainable campus.
- Establishing guidelines for the development of collaborative programs, joint degrees, and facilitating seamless mobility opportunities for students.
- Addressing global societal challenges to shape a more just, open, and inclusive society.
The inaugural working session for this project is scheduled for mid-December at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. SWPS University leads the group focused on innovative learning pathways. This group is tasked with developing a comprehensive education system that encompasses joint programs and degrees, innovative teaching and learning options, seamless mobility opportunities, and online educational resources.
