An evening for English culture enthusiasts
English Studies programs are often viewed as advanced language courses. However, the discipline extends beyond vocabulary and grammar, providing a profound exploration of diverse cultures and societies.
This common misconception inspired the organizers of Noc Anglistów. The event was established in 2021 by the Faculty of English at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań to emphasize the field's interdisciplinary nature through engaging workshops and thought-provoking lectures.
The recent Noc Anglistów took place on November 24. It featured 121 onsite activities, 11 live online meetings, and 28 short YouTube lectures – some of which are still accessible on the event's official channel. To learn more about the event review the Noc Anglistów website .
Seventeen universities contributed to the event this year. Academics from SWPS University's Department of English Studies presented three lectures now available on YouTube.
Eliza Borkowska, Ph.D. / Associate Professor, shed light on a project focused on translating the works of William Blake, the 19th-century English poet, into Polish.
Mikołaj Wiśniewski, Ph.D. / Associate Professor, explored the intriguing absence of public commemoration for the execution of King Charles I in London.
Emma Oki, Ph.D. / Assistant Professor, and Marcin Szwed introduced the listeners to computational linguistics. They delivered their presentation in Polish.
