2023 Award Gala
The winners of this year's awards for the most influential universities in Poland were announced by representatives of Elsevier during the Plenary Assembly of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland (CRASP), held on October 26-27 in Łódź. The meeting was hosted by the University of Lodz and the Lodz University of Technology.
The Elsevier Research Impact Leaders Awards are presented in six categories (according to the OECD classification): Life Sciences/Agricultural Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Humanities, Medical Sciences, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences. Three institutions were nominated in each of the categories.
The winners of the 7th edition of the Research Impact Leaders Awards included:
- SWPS University in the Social Sciences category
- Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń in the Humanities category
- University of Agriculture in Kraków in the Life Sciences/Agricultural Sciences category
- Gdańsk University of Technology in the Engineering and Technology category
- Medical University in Wrocław in the Medical Sciences category
- University of Warsaw in the Natural Sciences category
- Silesian University of Technology in the special category (within the framework of the Erasmus+ European Universities project)
Other Polish universities that were recognized in the Social Sciences category include Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and Silesian University of Technology.
The criteria
To analyze huge databases and select universities with the biggest research impact, Elsevier uses an algorithm, which takes into account the following components of the final assessment:
- increase in the number of publications (15%)
- increase in the number of authors from a given university (10%)
- citation index (30%)
- international cooperation (20%)
- number of publications in Top 10 journals (25%)
Elsevier Research Impact Leaders Awards
The ELSEVIER Research Impact Leaders Award recognizes higher education institutions whose latest scientific publications have had the greatest visibility impact globally. The award promotes high quality research projects and their internationalization.
The impact is measured by the number of publications in prestigious scientific journals, the contribution of international collaborators in the publications and the number of citations in a given discipline.
The goal of the ELSEVIER Research Impact Leaders Award, is the promotion of research and development of science. The award is part of a global Elsevier initiative and was given for the first time in 2016. It recognizes outstanding research institutions that exert the largest impact on research and improve the visibility of science around the world.
